Allergies: Our Journey With Gluten, Dairy, and Egg - Part One - Want to know how we are feeding our family? | NaturallyBlessedMama.com

Well, I'm not sure where to start but two of our kids have been having some sort of strange symptoms for several years. We recently took one daughter off gluten which eliminated a lot of the symptoms. These symptoms range from terrible stomach cramps and digestive problems to non-stop hacking with lots of mucus, complete exhaustion and brain "fog." Severe pain throughout the body was also another symptom. The pain seems to travel - never the same spot.

For several years, we have been on this journey to find out what could possibly be the problem. Both of our daughters were having all kinds of trouble. These symptoms started happening about six months after we all came down with the Flu. Of course the doctor prescribed Tamiflu for all of us. Well, guess what happened after the Flu? Our oldest daughter got Pneumonia. Yeh - no - not yeh. Could anything else happen? Even after she took a round of antibiotics, she was still coughing - that deep, gutteral-type cough - like your coughing up a lung! Seriously! So I took her back to the doctor. She still had Pneumonia!!!!! They proceeded to give her stronger antibiotics and a shot in the hip. Well, if that didn't do it - what would?

At that point, I began to realize that I needed to start researching what would get rid of Pneumonia since the antibiotics were obviously not working so well. I began giving her lots of Traditional Medicinals Herbal Tea Sampler. I also gave her Horehound Extract three or four times a day. In addition to those two things, she would take Similisan Kids Cold & Mucus Relief during the night and Herbal Expec during the day. Within a week, she was feeling so much better. This regimen had loosened up the mucus so it was being expelled quickly.

Even after getting through these bouts of pneumonia, our daughter still had a weakened immune system so seemed to always get a cold really easily. She had to quit basketball since it she had a cold/pneumonia all the time that season. Getting hot and sweaty for practice and then going out in freezing weather was not helpful to her system. Extreme changes in temperature seems to always trigger a cold which sometimes tries to run into Pneumonia. Even now, I always keep herbs and extracts on hand to stop the cold when it first begins. This was only the beginning of our long journey to discovering the root cause of many allergies. I will be explaining more in Part 2 - so keep watching for next post.
