Well, guess what? I am on a mission to keep our family well this season. Every year, my husband seems to come down with Strep Throat. Last year, I was totally panicked when he asked me to check his throat. When I saw how terrible his throat looked, I decided I had to do something fast before the rest of our family got it. When I realized that most likely that was Strep that I was seeing I started thinking of everything I could give him – guns blazing!!! I was terrified of it stepping foot in my house and how dare it come near my family!!!! I grabbed everything I could think of out of the herb cabinet. He didn’t realize how scared I was. I was just hoping my idea would work. My husband has not yet come to the point of totally believing that herbs work so it is always a learning adventure for the whole family when my husband gets sick. So, this is what I used:

  1. Garlic -- natural antibiotic, antiviral

  2. Elderberry Syrup -- boosts immunity

  3. Cinnamon  --  antiviral

  4. Echinacea  -- boosts immunity

  5. Zinc  --  boosts immunity

  6. Spirulina  -- for overall good health - lots of vitamins

  7. Vitamin C -- boosts immunity

  8. Colloidal Silver - natural antibiotic

  9. Turmeric -- helps to eliminate inflammation

Fresh garlic, of course, is the number one food you will want to keep on hand at all times. It boosts your immune system so well that some of us call it "natural penicillin.” It does contain a small percentage of penicillin per clove. Our children help us make garlic toast by placing freshly, minced garlic on whole wheat bread and then toasting it. This is great for those of us who do not like to eat garlic raw.

Elderberry Syrup will usually help to kill Strep by itself but I like to back it up with the other herbs as well. Since Cinnamon is antiviral,  the kids like to make Cinnamon Honey toast.  Echinacea, Zinc, and Vitamin C are a must for boosting your immunity. We use Vitamin C in powder form so it can be mixed into your favorite drink.  I also keep Spirulina handy since it contains so many immune boosting vitamins. Spirulina is a microalga that is found in the ocean. It contains lots of B-vitamins and is a good source of protein.

Turmeric is a seasoning I use in almost all my chicken since it looks so much like Lemon Pepper Seasoning. It is extremely anti-inflammatory which is exactly what you need for Strep throat. I always follow this up with a teaspoon of Colloidal Silver at least twice a day. I use Silver that is 20ppm. My husband says it tastes like stale water - so it may not taste very yummy but it will help to get rid of the Strep.

Well, in the end, no one had to go to the doctor. We got the Strep throat stopped with just my husband. Yes, I was so relieved!!!!  It took about three days for him to feel back to normal but this regiment actually did work!! All of us took some of the immune boosting herbs as well.

Here are a few other things I do to keep everybody healthy during the cold season:

Oregano Oil - antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial - I use this oil two places.

First, you can apply it directly to the bottoms of the feet. My husband isn't too crazy about this since he thinks his feet smell like spaghetti sauce. hehe

Secondly, I place a drop or two into a gelatin capsule and swallow it. But, of course, if you are like my husband - you might be burping up the horrible taste for a while. Yuck!

Onions - absorbs bacteria and viruses - I half an onion and leave several throughout the house during the cold and flu season.

  1. So interesting. I haven't done much with silver at my house. I am sure I don't have any. I've been thinking about turmeric lately. I think I need to get some.
